- Schaeffler announced a new performance programme today: a net 3,460 positions cut in Europe, about 2,660 of them in Germany, across 16 European sites, mostly in 2027–2028.
- Five sites close: Dortmund (430 staff) and Morbach (160), both combustion-engine products in Powertrain & Chassis; Berlin (~270); Schwalbach (~385, many moving to Frankfurt, ~190 jobs cut); and Herstal, Belgium (~15).
- Capacity is also being cut in Haguenau and Toulouse (France) and in Skalica and Kysuce (Slovakia). Roughly half the cuts are in production and 30% in R&D.
- Schaeffler expects about €300m a year in savings from 2030, with one-off costs of about €480m, mostly booked in 2026. It blames weak ICE demand, slower EV uptake, competition and high German labour costs.
